What is the Alkaline Diet?

The Alkaline Diet is a group of loosely related diets that claim that certain foods can affect the pH balance of your body and subsequently improve your health. It's also known as the alkaline ash diet, alkaline acid diet, and acid ash diet among other names.

The Alkaline Diet is more of a plant-based diet since the alkaline food groups consist of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. It is also vegan-friendly since meat and dairy products are off-limits.

Does the Alkaline Diet work? What are the benefits of it?

There is no scientific evidence that the Alkaline Diet works or does anything.

The Alkaline Diet aims to help your body maintain its blood pH level when in fact your blood pH cannot be simply changed by the food you eat. The diet’s aim is nonsense since the body has its own ways to stabilize the blood pH level. But despite the lack of scientific evidence, the Alkaline Diet still has some indirect benefits since it includes a variety of healthy foods.

Since the Alkaline Diet uses whole and organic foods, some studies suggest that the concept of the Alkaline Diet can be beneficial in terms of recovery and sustained remissions to people with arthritis. The intake of fruits and vegetables is beneficial in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress on the body. The Alkaline Diet also improves the immune system’s competence reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as hypertension and stroke. Thus, consuming five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day promotes cardiovascular health.

There were even writings based on Dr. Sebi’s claims that the Alkaline Diet can cure AIDS, cancer and even herpes. Although there were no scientific studies to support the claim, it cannot be denied that the nourishing aspect of the diet enhances the healing of the body. So it can be said that the Alkaline Diet is not a cure but rather a treatment for a healthier body.

Is the Alkaline Diet safe? Is the Alkaline Diet unhealthy?

The Alkaline Diet basically recommends the consumption of plant-based foods and limiting the intake of sugar, wheat, dairy, meat, and alcohol. It is a very healthy dietary plan since you consume whole and organic foods and cut out the processed ones.

This diet is safe for you as long as you know how to organize your meal plan. A lot of protein-rich foods are avoided in the Alkaline Diet that is why you should ensure that your body gets the protein it needed.
